Identity Theft
Identity Theft is a growing problem in today's society.
In the past twenty five years of so, Identity Theft has increased at an alarming rate. This is due to the newer technologies that have been developed in this time.
With the improved speed of communications systems across the world, we can now send information at the speed of light to another person or company located in another country or another continent in the blink of an eye.
This information is being intercepted by individuals whose sole intent is to steal details about you that will allow them to take on your persona. This is categorized as Identity Theft. They do this so that they can indulge in criminal activity whilst appearing to be someone else.
There are a number of ways that your details can be stolen, but one of the major tools that your information is sourced with is by using Spyware.
When you are using your computer, especially whilst online, you are at risk of being infected with Spyware software. This software installs itself onto your computer and runs silently in the background logging all of your activities on the computer.
Some of the kinds of data that are logged so that Identity Theft can be done are, your name, age, sex, and address. Other, more important information such as bank account details, credit card numbers, usernames and passwords are also stolen.
Once the person/s with criminal intent have this information they can then assume your identity and start acting as if they are actually you.
To protect yourself from having your information stolen you can do one of several things. You can use data Encryption Software, which encrypts your data on your computer disks so that it cannot be used without the correct software and access codes.
You can also run anti-spyware software on your computer to detect, intercept and remove the Spyware software from your computer. The antispyware software runs continuously on your computer, lying in wait to intercept any attempt by spyware to invade your system.
You need to protect your personal data now, more than ever, because Identity Theft is becoming big business and the prevalence of it is increasing at an alarming rate.
So do not become a victim of Identity Theft. Every day in the papers or on television there are stories of people who have fallen foul of this problem.
The time to act is now, so that you are not the next headline on the front page of a newspaper, because you failed to take the appropriate measures to protect yourself from Identity Theft.
